St Michaels Primary School The KHAYELITSHA COMMUNITY The most recent arrivals have to contend with overcrowding, shanty houses and a lack of basic facilities. With a growing population of young people and children, the schools are overcrowded and there are few, if any sports or extracurricular facilities. Nevertheless the parents of this community are committed to giving their children the best education they can afford, even if it means paying for transport costs into Cape Town, 30 km away. NEED FOR SCHOOL The vision was to expand the school to the status of a primary school by adding one grade a year. Classes will stay small and pupils will have access to facilities such as computers and sports equipment. The church has been offered a tract of land large enough to build a school on. We already build phase 1 consist of five classrooms, 6 toilets and an administration office. We also have enough space for assemble quadrangle and space for exercise. Funding is all that is needed to take this project forward to build phase 2 which will have a computer lab. HOW YOU CAN HELP?
