BACKGROUND
The St Michael's Marimba Band was formed in 1997 under the watchfull eyes of the St Michaels Anglican Church in Khayelitsha. Our former name was Masakhane Marimba Band but we changed the name to be St Michaels marimba Band.

We started by playing only in the church on Sundays and one day there were visitors on our church and they did like our music and invited us to play on their function at Cape Town Museum centre, that day was our first time to be known by many people and invited us to play on their functions.

Now we are performing all over Western Cape. We play in different places in churches, Hotels, City council functions and others. We play church songs, traditional songs and western songs. The group is still in progress of registering as a NPO. In August 2005 we were invited in Norway (Europe) to perform on their Talent music festival, that was a good trip. Now we are the group of 8 members.

The Marimba band is able to create employment for a number of people within the community of Khayelitsha. However, for the group it is more than a job it is way of life! The band plays at the craft market, it creates an exciting atmosphere. They are available to play at weddings and other functions and have produced a very successful CD.

OUR VISION
Was to provide entertainment to all our clients and becoming leading marimba band in the Western Cape. It was also to provide employment to the unemployed youth and uplift the image of St Michaels community based ministries.

AIMS & OBJECTIVIES

To enter the corporate world of entertainment by recording original songs from the St Michaels Marimba Band.

To develop the image with regards to appearance and attire as form of identity.

To collaborate with other projects form within St Michaels Church e.g Craft market.

Link with other structures/organizations with the same objectives.

And to form part of the St Michaels Church choir.

THE PLANS FOR THE FUTURE

To have a new instrument

To have dancers

To have our own transport because now we hire someone and sometimes we becoming late.

To release second CD.
